Celebrating John Baldessari: A Print Retrospective from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation

Join us in the Being John Baldessari Art Studio, an interactive space celebrating the work of John Baldessari. Baldessari manipulated found photographs to change viewers’ interpretations. Like the artist, you can experiment with images and create your own variations with magnetic art in the studio. 

Being John Baldessari Art Studio
July 11 – November 7
Tuesday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m.–5:15 p.m.
Printmaking demonstrations and hands-on art making, Saturdays 1:30–4:30 p.m.

On Saturdays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. see printmaking in action with a different artist demonstration each week and enjoy a hands-on art making activity for the entire family.

Livia Stein
September 26
Livia Stein studied South Asian Studies and Photography, before receiving a MFA in Painting and Monotype in the innovative Experimental Art Program at SFSU. Her work has been exhibited in Europe, South America, India, and throughout the United States and is part of the collection of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts at the Legion of Honor.

Adele Louise Shaw
October 3, 10
Adele Louise Shaw’s work in printmaking and encaustic painting (art of painting with hot wax) was the focus of an Artist Residency at the Legion of Honor and Vermont Studio Center. She has shared her art as a teacher and exhibiting artist in Asia and the United States.

Calixto Robles
October 17 and 24
Calixto Robles was born in Oaxaca, Mexico. He is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor. His work, which is inspired by the myths and symbols of the ancient traditions of Mexico, has been exhibited in several galleries around the world.

Alexandra Blum
October 31, November 7
Alexandra Blum works in printmaking, painting, and mixed media works and her art has been exhibited at both the Legion and the de Young. Ali works mostly in mixed media monoprints inspired by childhood memories and dreams.

Want more printmaking? Visit the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts on Saturdays from 11:30 am-2:30 pm. In the Hoefer Print Study, Room, volunteers explain various techniques, share examples of tools used to create woodblock, intaglio, and lithographic prints, and provide visitors with a close-up view of select works.
