Chihuly Opening Weekend Sponsored by

The de Young will be free of charge from 9:30 am to 5:15 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Crucible, the Oakland-based non-profit arts organization that fosters a collaboration of arts, industry and community will be working with the de Young to bring a variety of visual arts demonstrations and performances to the museum this weekend. Weekend activities will include live music, bronze casting, metal torch cutting, glowing sculpture installations, stilt walkers, safe, hands-on art making for children, clowns, circus arts and the Crucible’s Educational Response Vehicle (1960 International Harvester fire truck) that has been repurposed with its own demonstration platform for industrial fire arts. Free, timed tickets to the special exhibition, Chihuly at the de Young, will be available at the admissions desk at the de Young. There will be no advance ticketing for this weekend. The number of tickets available to the exhibition is limited and will be issued on a first come, first served basis. Visitors will be allowed four tickets per person. Strollers, baby-carrying backpacks, diaper bags and regular backpacks must be checked before entering the special exhibition galleries. The de Young’s permanent collection galleries will be free all weekend and will not require a ticket.
