Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco to Host Tribal & Textile Arts Show

Opening Gala Evening on Thursday, 10 February 2005

Proceeds will Benefit de Young’s Departments of Textiles and Art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas

San Francisco, 11 January 2005--The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco will for the fourth time host the gala opening evening for the annual Tribal & Textile Arts Show held at San Francisco's Fort Mason Festival Pavilion. The opening event kicks off a four-day showing of one of the largest and most comprehensive assemblages of tribal arts in the world that draws an international cast of dealers showing art from Africa, North Africa, South America, the Near East, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, India, China, Japan, and Oceania.

A Gala Evening of Art, Food, and Entertainment
The preview evening and reception provides a first look at the art and artifacts offered
for sale, food by preeminent caterer McCall & Associates, live entertainment, complimentary valet parking, and an opportunity to meet national and international dealers and other collectors. Tickets for the event, which takes place on Thursday, 10 February from 6–10 PM, are $150 per person and can be obtained by calling 415-750-3518.

This year’s Tribal & Textile Arts show is sponsored by SBC. Event chairmen are Bette and Randy Scott, and George and Marie Hecksher. Proceeds from the opening gala are earmarked for the departments in the new de Young Museum that collect and display textiles and the arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. The new de Young Museum is slated to open on 15 October 2005.
